One plaque from the City of Berkeley, 1966, and one framed resolution from the California State Senate, 1975

Biographical / historical:

Wilmont Sweeney (1925-1999) was the first African American to be elected to the Berkeley City Council in 1961; he served as vice mayor from 1969 to 1974, when he was appointed t the Municipal Court. He was apointed to the Superior Court in 1979 and served for many years in the Juvenile Court.
