Charline Abernathy is a lifelong public servant who is active in Northeast Los Angeles. She was the secretary of the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce as well as the President of the Highland Park Ebell Management Company Inc. Dedicated to neighborhood development and youth programming, the collection documents her accomplishments and public recognitions.

Scope and content:

This collection includes articles and plaques recognizing the public service of Charline Abernathy to the community of northeast Los Angeles.

Biographical / historical:

Charline Abernathy is a lifelong public servant active in Northeast Los Angeles. She owns a mini farm in the San Pascual Valley and in an effort to be ecologically conscious raises and preserves her own food. She worked as a building contractor in the Los Angeles area for many years. She was also a welder on aircrafts and ships during World War II and won an award from Rocketdyne in 1958 for "most suggestions." She was the Vice President of the Highland Park Improvement Association, a member and Secretary of the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce and served on the Board of Directors for North East Youth Foundation. She now serves as the President of the Highland Park Ebell Management Company Incorporated.

Provenance unknown (circa 1998). This collection is part of an outreach and collection-building partnership between the June L. Mazer Lesbian Archives, the UCLA Center for the Study of Women (CSW) and the UCLA Library.
