Abstract:
The collection contains the papers of psychologist Shelley F. Diamond. Shelley Diamond was involved in various careers, organizations and activities that included activism, journalism and psychology in San Francisco. She completed several writings in topics that include her narrative as a patient of severe eczema, psychology and creative writings. The collection is comprised of detailed personal journals that detail various experiences regarding her work, health, relationships, life in San Francisco and creative writings. As well as collected articles, photographs, a/v and born digital materials.

13 cartons containing various personal, dream, travel, work journals dating 1977-2008; academic, journalistic and creative writings by Shelley F. Diamond; collected readings on various topics of interest (psychology, philosophy, health and art); a/v materials, and personal photographs and correspondence. 15 boxes of index cards containing daily summaries/musings/notes and news and magazine clippings. 1 box containing born digital materials. 1 oversize box containing various art works.

Biographical / historical:

Shelley Fern Diamond was born in 1957 in the state of New York, she passed in 2022 from pancreatic cancer. Shelley F. Diamond moved to San Francisco in 1976 where she was involved in various organizations and activities. These include reporter and producer for National Public Radio (NPR); managing editor of the American Journal of Human Genetics where she worked with UCSF professor in Human Genetics Dr. Charles Epstein; activism in LGBTQ, anti-nuclear and other issues; publishing professional writings on various topics; and involvement with various alternative groups such as Processed World magazine, APA-50 zine, the SF Suicide Club, Photo Metro, and Mothertongue Feminist Reader's Theater.

These papers were donated to the UCSF Archives and Special Collections by Shelley F. Diamond in 2022.
