    Biographical / Historical

    George Hoyningen-Huene (1900-1968) was a Russian-born American fashion photographer who worked extensively with the publications Vogue and Harper's Bazaar in New York City. Hoyningen-Huene also photographed glamorous portraits for the film industry in Hollywood and served as a special visual and color consultant for George Cukor's A Star is Born (1954). He is also known for his landscape and figural photography.

    Scope and Contents

    Collection is composed letters from various actress friends and acquaintances of Russian-born fashion photographer George Hoyningen-Huene. Correspondence includes letters, holiday cards, and telegrams. Correspondence from Annabella, Joan Crawford, Ava Gardner, Greer Garson, Katharine Hepburn, Charlton Heston, Vivien Leigh, Sophia Loren, and Pola Negri are present.
    Originally part of the Ethel Barrymore Memorial Theatre Arts Collection at the University of Southern California Library 100 Series, and was labeled 100-47.
