Scope and content:

This collection consists of the phonograph records and realia of American film director and producer George Sidney (1916-2002). These include photographs, drawings, and awards that Sidney received. Sidney primarily worked with MGM on films, including "Bye Bye Birdie" (1963), "Viva Las Vegas" (1964), "Annie Get Your Gun" (1950), "Show Boat" (1951), "Kiss Me Kate" (1953), and "Jupiter's Darling" (1955).

Biographical / historical:

George Sidney (1916-2002) was an American film director and producer. He worked for MGM for most of his career. The films he directed for MGM inlcude "Bye Bye Birdie" (1963), "Viva Las Vegas" (1964), "Annie Get Your Gun" (1950), "Show Boat" (1951), "Kiss Me Kate" (1953), and "Jupiter's Darling" (1955). Sidney began at MGM editing film. His film editing won two Academy Awards for "Quicker'n A Wink" (1940) and "Of Pups and Puzzles" (1941).
