Primarily individuals and families associated with the history of the San Francisco Bay Area, California, or the American West, including pioneers, artists, literary figures, community leaders, elected officials, scholars, etc. Also includes individuals outside the scope of Western Americana. Includes photographs, prints, and a small number of drawings. Some portraits are present as copy photographs only. Also known as the "Bancroft Portrait Collection."
