Biographical / historical:

The CSU Office of International Programs (CSU IP) was founded in 1963 to provide students with the opportunity to study abroad and improve their intercultural communication skills. Operating as a systemwide department of the CSU Chancellor's Office, CSU IP established its first programs in France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, and Taiwan.

After nearly a decade of development under director Tom Lantos, the International Programs saw success through growing enrollments, an expanding roster of programs, and reinforced academic and administrative procedures. The creation of the Advisory Committee for International Programs, which would be replaced by the Academic Council of International Programs (ACIP), promoted CSU campus participation in the development of policy concerning International Programs and ensured communication between the department and campuses.

Currently, the International Programs is affiliated with more than 70 recognized universities and institutions of higher education in 18 countries, and has admitted over 15,000 students in the CSU system.
