Background
- Scope and content:
-
The collection contains architectural drawings, plans, renderings and photographs, with a small amount of ephemera. The majority of the collection is the work of Wesley Eager. There are two sets of drawings by Eager & Eager, 1910 and 1912 (A. W. Eager and brother Frank Eager), and one rendering of the Baruch residence by Hunt, Eager & Burns, 1909. The firm Hunt & Eager is represented only in the book "Our Architecture," 1905. There are also two projects by architect William Lee Woollett, 1921 and 1924.
- Biographical / historical:
-
Los Angeles architects Wesley Waugh Eager (1892-1948) and his father, Abram (sometimes misspelled as Abraham) Wesley Eager (1864-1930), designed both residential and commercial buildings in the Southern California area, including several homes in the Spanish, Craftsman and Tudor styles and some important Moderne style structures.
A. W. Eager partnered with Sumner Hunt as Hunt & Eager from 1899 to 1907. From late 1907 to 1910, the firm became Hunt, Eager & Burns with the addition of Silas Burns. In 1910, A. W. Eager went into practice with his brother, Frank O. Eager, to form Eager & Eager.
Wesley W. Eager, A. W.'s son, started working as a draughtsman in his father's architecture firm after leaving Santa Monica High School in the 10th grade. He was later on the executive staff of the architectural office of William Lee Woollett serving as General Manager. Eager was accepted into the American Institute of Architects in 1923 and remained active as an independent architect primarily in the 1920s to 1930s, designing both residential and commercial buildings.
