- This collection contains materials created and collected by Manuel A. Parsons during the course of his career as an artist and activist in the Barrio Logan neighborhood of San Diego, California from 1961-1995. He was a driving force in the Chicano Movement through his work as senior political advisor for La Causa, co-founder of El Museo del Pueblo (the People's Museum), editor of Trucha News, as the elected representative for Barrio Logan and as an artist.

This collection contains materials created and collected by Manuel A. Parsons during the course of his career as an artist and activist in the Barrio Logan neightborhood of San Diego, California from 1961-1995. Materials include flyers, sketches, posters, pamphlets, press releases, newsletters, clippings, photographs, written notes, project files, subject files, audio recordings and correspondence.
Of note, some of the research, sketches and artwork in this collection were done in preparation for creating his mural at Chicano Park titled Decades of Chicano Movement.

Manuel Alva Parsons was a Chicano (Mexican American) artist born in Mexico City, MX on February 14, 1945. He attended Chula Vista High School, studied Art History at San Diego City College, attended New Communication School of Cinematography and completed a post-graduate seminar on editing at the University of Southern California. He also studied at the Peace Center in East Los Angeles under Father John B. Luce from 1966-1971 where he contributed to movements assisting the poor, protesting the Vietnam War, and reforming education.
His career as an artist and activist in the Barrio Logan neightborhood and Chicano Park of San Diego, California spanned from 1961-1995. He was a driving force in the Chicano Movement through his work as senior political advisor for La Causa, co-founder of El Museo del Pueblo (the People's Museum), editor of Trucha News, as the elected representative for Barrio Logan and as an artist, curator and writer.
Manuel passed away December 15, 1995 at age 50 at Coronado Hospital in San Diego, California.
