- Julian Nava served as the Envoy (Attache España) of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee (LAOOC) to the Spainish Olympic Committee (Comité Olímpico Español - COE) for the 1984 Summer Olympics and preceding 10-week-long adjunct Los Angeles Olympic Arts Festival. The Spanish Olympic Committee was founded in 1912 to develop, promote, and protect the Olympic Movement in their country and support Spanish athletic participation in the Olympics. The materials in this collection document Julian Nava's involvement in the 1984 Summer Los Angeles Olympics as the Envoy for the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee to the Spainish Olympic Committee (Comité Olímpico Español - COE).
The collection documents the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics through the lens of the Spanish Olympic Team. The collection includes Olympic maps; a commemorative Olympic medallion; correspondence regarding travel arrangements, schedules, Olympic Village housing arrangements, uniform orders and other administrative matters for the Spainish Olympic Athletes and the COE members; Olympic identification and credentials for Nava, material on the Olympic Arts Festival, a "Chef de Mission Manual" containing a map of the training and game facilities and a full procedural manual for participants in the Olympics, as well as explanatory brochures for game events containing competition information.
The collection also includes a full set of the Olympic Record gifted to Julian Nava in 1985. The newsprint publication is a full record of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic games, the participants, and the winners of each event, as well as the closing ceremonies.
There are also portraits of Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee (LAOOC) members: Peter V. Ueberroth, President; Harry L. Usher, Executive Vice President/General Manager; and Paul Ziffren, Chairman.

Julian Nava was a professor of history at California State University, Northridge from 1957 to 2000. In 1967, Nava became the first Mexican-American elected to the Los Angeles Board of Education, and on April 3, 1980 Nava became the first Mexican-American U.S. Ambassador to Mexico. He served as Ambassador until 1981. Nava was also the Director of the Los Angeles Music and Art School, and during that time, in 1984, Nava served as the Envoy (Attache España) of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee (LAOOC) to the Spainish Olympic Committee (Comité Olímpico Español - COE) for the 1984 Summer Olympics and preceding 10-week-long adjunct Los Angeles Olympic Arts Festival.
