Scope and content:

This collection consists of 58 scripts (49 television scripts; 8 film scripts; 1 playscript), many of them annotated, as well as call sheets, newspaper and trade paper clippings, on-set photographs, press kits, textiles and other production ephemera. Films represented in the collection are The Andromeda Strain, Bullitt, Cheyenne Social Club, Follow Me Boys!, Gypsy Moths, Our Shadows Have Echoes (an unproduced Burt Reynolds film from 1962), Speedway, The Thousand Plane Raid, and Tora! Tora! Tora!. Bullitt in particular is well-represented: the collection includes Reindel’s heavily annotated script, trade paper announcements and reviews, a Mad Magazine satirical piece about the film, photos from the production featuring Reindel and Steve McQueen, and brochures and memorabilia from Reindel’s time in San Francisco while shooting. Television programs represented in the collection are: 77 Sunset Strip, Adam-12, Bonanza, Bracken’s World, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Cheyenne, Combat!, Death Valley Days, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Dr. Kildare, The F.B.I., The Forgotten Man, The Fugitive, Gemini Man, General Electric True, Gunsmoke, Ironside, Laramie, Medical Center, The Most Deadly Game, The Mothers-in-Law, My Friend Tony, The New Breed, The New People, Perry Mason, The Psychiatrist (episode directed by Steven Spielberg), Quincy ME, Rawhide, See Here, Private Hargrove (an unproduced NBC pilot from 1964, based on the 1944 film), Shane, The Six Million Dollar Man, Twelve O’Clock High, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, The Virginian, Wagon Train, Who Sets Our Standards (an unproduced pilot from 1966), and The Young Lawyers.

Biographical / historical:

Carl Reindel (1939-2009) was an actor in film and television. Among his best-known movie credits are Bullitt (1968), Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970), and The Andromeda Strain (1971). He also made guest appearances on numerous hit TV series, including Bonanza, Ironside, Gunsmoke and Perry Mason. After leaving acting in 1981, he became an insurance agent in Valley Village, CA.
