Collection of 507 sermons composed between 1770 and 1814 by Thomas Prentiss. Although the sermons are unsigned, Peter Drummey, Librarian of the Massachusetts Historical Society, identified Thomas Prentiss as the most likely author.
- Biographical / historical:

Thomas Prentiss (1747-1814) was the minister of the First Congregational Church in Medfield, Massachusetts. He was born in Holliston, Massachusetts, son of Reverend Joshua Prentiss and Mary Angier Prentiss. He taught at school in Berwick, Massachusetts, and studied medicine. In 1766, he graduated from Harvard College and then studied theology with his father. In November 1770, he was ordained minister of the First Congregational Church in Medfield, a position that he retained until his death in February 1814. During the Revolutionary War, Reverend Prentiss served as a chaplain to the American forces stationed in Roxbury, Massachusetts.
