Scope and content:

The collection consists of writings, photographs, certificates, medals, and other memorabilia relating to Wang Hou's military activities with the Nationalist Chinese military police during the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1942, as well as his participation in the military police campaign to take over Okinawa and other Pacific islands formerly occupied by Japan in 1947, and materials related to his civilian life in Taiwan where he retired from the military and served in various government posts after March 1949.

Biographical / historical:

Wang Hou 汪浩 (Wang Chengtang 汪承棠) (b.1926) was born in Hubei Province, China. In 1939, Wang was was kidnapped by the Japanese army at the age of 13 and was later released. In August 1942, he joined the Nationalist Chinese military police and engaged in conflicts during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945). In early 1947, he served as member of the Republic of China's military police campaign to take over Okinawa and other Pacific islands formerly occupied by Japan. In March 1949, he moved to Taiwan, where he retired from the military and served in various government posts.
