Collection includes genealogical material relating to the family of Professor Arthur B. Clark; "Drawings and notes of a motor trip" through Europe, Spain and Morocco in 1931-32 by Arthur B. Clark and Grace Clark (printed volumes, letters, original drawings, and prints); financial records, 1906-1921, and miscellaneous papers, 1864-1904; and original woodblocks, prints and copper plates by Professor Clark for pages in Art Principles in House, Furniture, and Village Building: An Exposition of Designing Principles which Every House Builder, Furniture User, and Village Deweller Should Know. Also included is correspondence between A. B. Clark and various administrative officers of the University regarding Department of Art affairs, the changing status of the study of fine arts at Stanford and the Student Affairs Committee, of which Clark was chairman.

Biographical / historical:

Arthur Bridgman Clark (1866-1948) was the first head of the Art and Architecture Department. Professor Clark taught at Stanford from 1893 until his retirement in 1931. He specialized in the printing method. Clark was a founder and a member of the Pacific Arts Association, and a member of the American Committee for the International Congress of Art Education, the Palo Alto Art Club (now known as Pacific Art League), and California Teachers Association.

Material specific details:
Boxes 3, 4, 5, and 6 were treated by conservation for mold and pest damage in April 2024.
