    Scope and Contents

    This collection contains eight personal photograph albums of young men and women on Sierra Club trips, primarily in Yosemite, the High Sierras, and King's Canyon, California. The albums date from 1904 to 1919, with one dated 1933, and bear the names of A. E. Neuenburg and Violet Ehrman (in later albums, "Mrs. A. E. Neuenburg"). Images include people mountain hiking, fishing, swimming in lakes, camping, and having outdoor picnics and tea parties. There are many images of women throughout, seen individually and in outdoor activities.

    Processed by Huntington Library staff, circa late-20th century. In 2020, Suzanne Oatey created a finding aid derived from a collection file.

    Biographical / Historical

    Andrew E. Neuenburg (1878-1961) and Violet (Ehrman) Neuenburg (1882-1966), a married couple, lived in San Francisco and were active Sierra Club members; Andrew Neuenburg was a committee member from 1916 to 1918. The Sierra Club was founded in 1892 by naturalist John Muir.
