Background
Norma Talmadge (1894-1957) was an American silent film actress and producer best known for Smilin' Through (1922). Talmadge's career reached its peak in the early 1920s, and she retired from acting in the early 1930s after being
unable to adapt to the new "talkies" and becoming bored with filmmaking.
