Biographical / historical:

Mennonite Brethren mission work in Ecuador was entirely linked to short-wave radio station HCJB in Quito, established in 1931 by the World Radio Missionary Fellowship (WRMF). The Board of Foreign Missions (as it was then known) approached WRMF in 1950 about the possibility of supplying missionaries to work in the German Department at HCJB. This offer was accepted by WRMF and in 1953 David and Anne Nightingale became the first Mennonite Brethren workers at HCJB.
