Scope and content:

The papers of Ruth Schoenbach relate to her work with the organization Lesbian Schoolworkers. The collection includes photographic slides, ephemera, flyers, meeting notes, and other material related to Lesbian Schoolworkers and other organizations, including the Gay Teachers and School Workers Coalition. The material documents organizing efforts against Proposition 6 (the Briggs Initiative) and Proposition 7. The Briggs Initiative (1978) was a failed California ballot proposition that would have banned gay and lesbian people from working in California schools.
