This collection consists of eight handwritten personal diaries kept by Jason Howard between 1978 and 1994. Born in Pittsburgh in 1952, Howard moved to New York in 1975 for the adventures of the city's emerging gay culture. He moved to San Francisco in 1979 and worked at St. Francis Hospital and at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Howard died of AIDS related complications in 1996. His journals chronicle his daily life, as well as the effect the AIDS epidemic had on his community.
