The collection is divided into six series. Series I: a selection of land deeds, title abstracts, and land patents. Series II: letters. Series III includes probate, baptismal and marriage records. Series IV includes Monterey and early California ordinances, petitions and proclamations. Series V consists of selected descriptive articles and records not filed in the Clipping File. It also contains a photocopy of the Monterey County Jail ledger, 1850-1858. Folders are arranged chronologically and numerically. Series VI contains oversize documents, mainly deeds, invoices, reports and maps in Spanish from the Mexican era.
