Jessie Lois Pangborn was born on March 12, 1908 to parents Warren and Laura A. Pangborn (née Bingham) in Lomita, California. She attended local elementary schools and graduated from Nathaniel A. Narbonne High School in 1926. Jessie Lois married Preston George Roberts February 15, 1928 in Wilmington, California and they settled in a home on West G Street in Wilmington. Between 1928 and 1933, the couple had three children, two boys and one girl. Beginning in the early 1930s, Jessie Lois was involved in several auxiliary organizations such as the Junior Chamber of Commerce “Jayettes,” the Wilmington Rotary Anns, and the Optimist Club wives’ club. Throughout the 1940s, she was active in several civic, religious, and women’s organizations, including Native Daughters of the Golden West, Mary Martha Circle, Calvary Presbyterian Church, P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization), the American Red Cross, and the Fries Avenue Elementary School PTA. About 1940, she joined the Wilmington Woman’s Club, which was established in 1915. The Wilmington Woman’s Club was primarily a social club engaged in activities such as picnics, day trips, holiday parties, card games, luncheons and dinners, dances, theatrical and musical entertainment, flower shows, and educational lectures. To a lesser degree, the Club was involved in local and state politics through its parent organization, the California Federation of Women’s Clubs. Jessie Lois was elected president of the Wilmington Woman’s Club in 1946, and served as delegate to the 44th Convention of the California Federation of Women’s Clubs for that year. Jessie Lois and Preston George Roberts divorced sometime between 1953 and 1956. She married Albert H. Healy on September 5, 1969 in Los Angeles, California. She passed away on December 21, 1973 and is buried at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
