Background

Scope and content:

This collection contains the guest book from the Brock House, the home of Pepperdine University's President. The books range from 1973-1986 and contain the names of visitors to the Brock House. The collection includes events such as the dedication of the Brock House by President Gerald Ford with guests such as Jimmie Lovell, Tom Bost, Don Ingram, and Helen Pepperdine. Also, many prominent Pepperdine donors, such as Eddy Field, George Page, and Joan and Richard Seaver. Other events include guests such as Blanche Seaver, Odell McConnell, Charlie Runnels, John Nicks, Stephen Sale, Judge John Merrick, Gail Hopkins, Fritz Huntsinger, Lisa Smith, Sharon and Merritt Adamson, Frances Smothers, Larry Hornbaker, Jennifer McGoldrick, Hayden Ahmanson, Frank and Della Pack, Michael F. Adams, James Smythe, Flora Thornton, Norman Hughes, Helen Young, Jim Wilburn, Jerry Rushford, Calvin Bowers, Carroll Pitts, Ed Biggers, and William Banowsky. Also included are David Dreir, Mayor Tom Bradley, Ethel Bradley, William Doheny, Dr. and Mrs. Armand Hammer, Merritt Adamson, Sharon Adamson.

Biographical / historical:

The Brock House is the president's residence at Pepperdine University. Dedicated in 1975 by President Gerald Ford, the residence is named after Margaret Martin Brock, whose donation made the building of the house possible. All Pepperdine presidents since Norvel Young have lived in Brock House. Additionally, President Andy Benton made Brock House a welcome place for students, hosting both a freshman orientation party and a senior send-off at the residence yearly (which have both becoming enduring Pepperdine traditions each year).
