    Content Description

This collection contains four correspondence to Henry H. Horner (1892 - 1984) from coworkers while they served during and after the First World War. Included are three letters from Private Simon P. Kershaw, American Expeditionary Force (1889 - 1939) and one letter from John Ingram, American Expeditionary Force (b. 9/14/1894). Also included in the collection are three pages of biographical information found on Ancestry.com by the donor.
Ingram served with Company E 24th Infantry and Pvt. Kershaw served first with Co. G 152 Infantry and later with Co. I 328 Infantry, 82nd Infantry Division. Both Ingram and Kershaw mention briefly their time with Horner working on the Illinois Central Railroad in St. Louis, Illinois, as well as back pay owed them and Horner's help in getting that money to their parents. Pvt. Kershaw mentions in his last two letters that he will be coming home soon and cannot wait to be back on the railroad with Horner, whom he calls "Hiney."
