This collection consists of materials related to the California Zephyr employment of Helen Justin Webb as a "Zephyrette". Materials include correspondence from Mary Lou Gordon, Director of Passenger Services for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad, to Helen Justin, with a qualifications sheet for applications regarding "Zephyrette" positions on the "California Zephyr." Items of note are the Zephyrette manual from 1961, blank forms Zephyrettes would complete during their work days, and dining service reservation cards.

Helen Justin Webb was a Zephyrette on the California Zephyr in the 1960s.
A "Zephyrette" was a hostess on the California Zephyr train, which was a passenger train that operated between Chicago and Oakland, California, from 1949 to 1970. The California Zephyr was jointly operated by the Western Pacific, the Denver and Rio Grande, and the Burlington. Employed by the Western Pacific Railroad, the Zephyrettes were responsible for assisting passengers, making announcements, and generally ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable travel experience.

Parts of this collection were originally separated and housed in the California State Railroad Museum Corporate Miscellany Collection (MS 861). They have since been reunited to their original provenance. MS 365 was previously known as the Mary Lou Gordon Papers; however, it has been renamed the Helen Justin Webb Collection to more accurately describe the collection.
