Scope and content:

A collection of photographs depicting the lives of James Koeber and Flora Starn Koeber and their family. These photographs were passed down from Margaret Koeber Dack to her son Michael Dack.

Biographical / historical:

James Koeber (1884-1959) was born in Kansas on March 15, 1884. In 1909, he graduated from Oregon Agricultural College in Corvallis. He was an instructor in Agricultural Engineering at Davis from 1912 until 1925, when he purchased a farm west of Davis. He authored the publication titled No. 261 "Sewing Grain Sacks" published in April of 1923. (A copy of the first page is included with the family photos.)

Flora Starn (1889-1957) was born in Michigan on June 15, 1889. She began working as a "practical nurse" in the dormitories at the University Farm in 1912. Flora and James were married on June 15, 1915, and their daughter Margaret was born on August 3, 1917.

Flora and James lived on the farm, which was located across the road to the southeast of the Primate Center, until they died in the 1950s. The university later purchased the farm. Flora, James, and Margaret are buried in the Davis Cemetery.
