The collection includes personal messages written in calligraphy by Japanese military personnel detained during trials for war crimes and crimes against humanity in relation to World War II. Defendants represented in the calligraphy include Sadao Araki, Kenji Doihara, KingorÅ Hashimoto, Shunroku Hata, KiichirÅ Hiranuma, KÅki Hirota, Naoki Hoshino, SeishirÅ Itagaki, Okinori Kaya, KÅichi Kido, HeitarÅ Kimura, Kuniaki Koiso, Iwane Matsui, JirÅ Minami, Akira MutÅ, Osami Nagano, Takasumi Oka, Hiroshi Åshima, KenryÅ SatÅ, Mamoru Shigemitsu, ShigetarÅ Shimada, Toshio Shiratori, Teiichi Suzuki, Shigenori TÅgÅ, and Hideki TÅjÅ.
