Tommy Ishibashi was a Japanese American Provost Sergeant stationed at Sugamo Prison from May 1946 to December 1951. The collection includes peresonal messages from war criminals during the International Tribunal for the Far East in 1946-1947, military records, a wooden toy box, and a coat rack.

Background

Scope and content:

The collection includes personal messages written in calligraphy by Japanese military personnel detained during trials for war crimes and crimes against humanity in relation to World War II. Defendants represented in the calligraphy include Sadao Araki, Kenji Doihara, Kingorō Hashimoto, Shunroku Hata, Kiichirō Hiranuma, Kōki Hirota, Naoki Hoshino, Seishirō Itagaki, Okinori Kaya, Kōichi Kido, Heitarō Kimura, Kuniaki Koiso, Iwane Matsui, Jirō Minami, Akira Mutō, Osami Nagano, Takasumi Oka, Hiroshi Ōshima, Kenryō Satō, Mamoru Shigemitsu, Shigetarō Shimada, Toshio Shiratori, Teiichi Suzuki, Shigenori Tōgō, and Hideki Tōjō. The collection also contains military records, a wooden toy box, and a coat rack.
