Handwritten certificate signed by Charles Crocker, dated February 6, 1877, attesting that George Ulyett was a member of the crew that laid ten miles of track in one day, April 28, 1869.

Biographical / historical:

George C. Ulyett/Ulyatt was born on May 19, 1837, in England and immigrated to the United States. By 1869, he was employed as a section foreman/boss with the Central Pacific Railroad in Utah. Ulyett was part of the team who laid ten miles of track in one day on April 28, 1869. Ulyett married Lucy Massie [Osborn] Asher in 1875. At the time of their marriage, her was still employed by the Central Pacific Railroad. In 1879, they settled on a ranch near the head of the canyon east of Sparks, Nevada where he was a rancher and dairy farmer. He passed away on Dec. 26, 1912, in Sparks, Nevada and was buried in the Mountain View Cemetery, Reno, Washoe County, Nevada.

Lucy [Osborn] Asher Ulyett was born Aug. 31, 1834, in Morgan Springs, Virginia to Amos Osborn and his wife. When she was one year old, her family moved to Illinois and at the age of 16 she married Edwin Asher. In 1865 the Ashers and their son, Edwin, Jr., left Illinois and moved to Fort Churchill, Nevada. In 1875 she married George Ulyett in Lovelock, Nevada. She was the mother to Edwin Asher, Jr. and the grandmother to Walter T. and Edwin Asher and the great-grandmother to Dorothy [Asher] Fischer. She passed away Jun. 27, 1936, in Oakland, California at age 101.
