Background

Scope and content:

This collection follows AIM's (Tri-Athletes in Motion) participation in Gay Games II through Gay Games VI, as well as their own events during this time period. The events are organized from earliest to latest and include Gay Games II, Gay Games III - "Celebration 90" in Vancouver, Gay Games IV in NYC, Gay Games V in Amsterdam, Front Runners International San Diego 2001 (IFR), and Gay Games VI Sydney in 2002. The collection was donated by David Cohen. The collection includes various papers such as correspondence, meeting minutes, financial and event planning sheets, registraion packets, press kits, and donation letters. Folder materials also include newspapers, posters, maps and guides, brochures, flyers, schedules, and programs. Other physcial materials include buttons and a beach ball with the AIM logo on it.

Biographical / historical:

Tri-Athletes in Motion (AIM) was a San Diego based queer triathon club that also frequently worked in tandem with other like-minded clubs from SD, such as Different Strokes, Rainbow Cyclists, and Front Runners. AIM attended the Gay Games (an olympic-level event for LGBTQIA+ folks that takes place every four years) multiple times throughout their existence, along with these other clubs, starting with Gay Games II in August 1986.
