Contains San Francisco marketing and research materials including advertising, line drawings, special event proposals, invitations, calendars, speeches, newsletters, tip sheets, story ideas, correspondence, press releases, visitor guides, marketing plans, and photographs and slides. Notably includes a See's Candies Barbie doll with theme, "I left my heart in San Francisco." Subjects include the first Visitor Information Center, romantic San Francisco, cartoons, weather, archaeology, and boycotts. The bulk of the collection, subject files, is arranged alphabetically. These are followed by oversized material including special events proposals and invitations, line drawings, photographs, publications, and the See's Candies Barbie doll. The San Francisco Travel Association has promoted San Francisco as a convention and leisure travel destination since forming in the wake of the 1906 earthquake and fire. San Francisco Travel is a not-for-profit business association. It provides members with marketing, networking, relationship, and educational development services.
