Background

Scope and content:

Includes invoices, bills of lading, way bills, unform general releases, a weight certificate, live stock transportation contracts, permits to remove spirits, ticket reports, a monthly statement from the Great North Western Telegraph Company, a conductor's trip records, invoices of merchandise, and a daily report of cars on hand for freight operations at Bismarck, Ontario, Canada. There is also a note dated September 6, 1935 from Loyal J. Crowl ? about a fire alarm patent he feels he was cheated out of.

Biographical / historical:

Michigan Central Railroad was originally incorporated in 1837 to establish rail service between Detroit, Michigan and St. Joseph, Michigan. The railroad later operated in the states of Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois in the United States, and the province of Ontario in Canada. Starting in about 1867, the railroad was operated as part of the New York Central Railroad, which later became part of Penn Central and then Conrail. [Wikipedia]
