Scope and content:

The papers of Harry Drell include correspondence from Ray Matsuno of Harvey Mudd College to Drell, printed material about the history of Lockheed, newspaper clippings, and printed matter including technical reports, design manuals, awards, and photographs. The majority of the material deals with Lockheed and their engineering department, and Drell's inventions, but some also deal with the Israel Aircraft Industries, Ltd., jet plane noise, and thermal matter.

Biographical / historical:

Harry Drell was born in January 1915. He earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Armour Institute of Technology, Chicago, Illinois in 1935. Drell was employed by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation from 1940 through 1975. His career at Lockheed included experience in design and engineering management of heat transfer and power plant systems. He was a member of Aircraft Noise and Emission Control Committee of Aerospace Industries Association; Interagency Aircraft Noise Abatement Program, International Civil Aviation Organization; NASA Research & Technology Subcommittee; and National Aircraft Noise Abatement Council (NANAC). He died in November 2009 in Sherman Oaks, California.
