The materials highlight their time as Pomona College students and subsequent affiliations with alumni organizations and include newspaper clippings, correspondence, photographs, and artifacts.

Background

Scope and content:

The Rounds Family Collection of Pomoniana includes items belonging to two generations of the Rounds Family – Jack Sherman Rounds, Sr. ('23), Christine (Asher) Rounds ('23), and Jack Rounds, Jr. ('60) – highlighting their time as Pomona College students and subsequent affiliations with alumni organizations. The majority of the materials come from Jack Rounds, Jr.'s time as a student, from 1956 to 1960, and include correspondence from Pomona College, informational handouts and items for new students, and newspaper clippings relating to both Pomona College and the City of Claremont. A selection of photographs from 1921 to 1923, including images of Pomona College athletes, Hobo Club banquet, and the Class of 1923 are featured in the collection. An honorary gavel presented to Jack S. Rounds, Sr. for his service with the Pomona College Alumni Association is also included.

Biographical / historical:

Jack Sherman Rounds graduated from Pomona College in 1923. As a student, Sherman earned a letter in track and was a member of the Kappa Delta fraternity, Lyceum Debating Society, Science Club, and Varsity Society. He maintained a close connection with his alma mater following graduation and served as president of the Pomona College Alumni Association from 1938 to 1940. Jack's wife, Christine (Asher) Rounds was also a Pomona College graduate with the Class of 1923. Their son, Jack S. Rounds, Jr. graduated from Pomona College as a pre-medicine major in 1960.
