Background

Scope and content:

The Paul Kayser Collection contains the 1945 map of China issued to Kayser by the U.S. military during the two-day rescue mission he led during WWII, along with two photographs of Kayser taken on the mission. In one of the photographs, the map can be seen folded up and sticking out of Kayser's pocket. A reproduction of a 2010 Scuttlebutt article featuring the photos is also included, with text and captions by Kayser.

Biographical / historical:

Paul Kayser was a U.S. Marine stationed in China during World War II. He was acting Sergeant of the Second Squad, Second Platoon, G Company, Seventh Regiment during a fifty-mile, two-day rescue mission led by Kayser to recover kidnapped Marines.
