Scope and content:

This collection documents the work of Marion Moses. The materials consist of correspondence, reports, publications, notebooks, newspaper clippings, ephemera, school work, photographs, and other materials. There are also unpublished drafts of writings and research material pertaining to her research on pesticide exposure.

The materials cover her work with the United Farm Workers, the National Farm Workers Health Group, the Mount Sinai Medical Center, and the Pesticide Education Center, and other groups and organizations.

The collection is organized into seven series. The collection is not in original order.

Biographical / historical:

Marion Moses (1936-2020) was a nurse, physician, activist, and author.

Marion Moses was born on January 24, 1936 in Wheeling, West Virginia. After graduating from Charleston Catholic High School, Moses attend Georgetown University where she graduated with a degree in nursing in 1957. In 1960 she graduated from Teacher's College, Columbia University with a master's degree in nursing education.

Moses worked as a nurse in Wheeling and in San Francisco. While getting an English degree at University of California, Berkeley, Moses began volunteering as a nurse for the United Farm Workers. She helped run the UFW run health clinic and later worked as the director for the National Farm Workers Health Group. In 1976 she earned a medical degreee from Temple University. Moses worked at the Mount Sinai Medical Center.

She was the founding director of the Pesticide Education Center and worked there until 2016. Moses also researched and wrote articles and books on pesticides, herbicides, and farm workers.

Marion Moses died in San Francisco on August 28, 2020.
