Scope and content:

This collection consists of Japanese American kinship research for dissertation, Japanese American kinship field notes, Japanese American kinship study records 1973-1975, administrative records, and anthropological project materials.

Biographical / historical:

Sylvia Yanagisako is the Edward Clark Crossett Professor of Humanistic Studies and Professor of Anthropology, Emerita. From 2023-2026 she will be Centennial Professor of Anthropology at the London School of Economics. Her research and publications have focused on the cultural dynamics of kinship, gender, work and capitalism. She has also written about the orthodox configuration of the discipline of anthropology in the U.S.

Materials are partially restricted. Interviews and field notes on Japanese American kinship (boxes 2-4) are restricted until 2060. Departmental search materials (box 6) are restricted until 2070. Interviews and field notes on Italian family firms (box 5) are restricted until 2080. Audio-visual materials are not available in original format and must be reformatted to a digital use copy.
