Scope and content:

Promotional album containing views of the Kern County Land Company's buildings, including exterior and interior views of the main Bakersfield office complex (later known as the Tevis Block and designated as a California Historical Landmark) and the buildings of the machine shops, meat packing department and flour mill. Also includes Kern County views illustrating various aspects of the regional agriculture and other benefits of living and/or investing in the area -- e.g. residential buildings, transportation, electrical power, lodgings, school, church, courthouse, hospital, jail, etc. -- many of them in Bakersfield. Other Kern County locations and features depicted include Stockdale, Kern City, the Calloway Canal, Buena Vista Lake and the Kern River.

Biographical / historical:

The Kern County Land Company was founded by James Haggin and Lloyd Tevis in 1890.
