    Content Description

This collection contains correspondence from Pvt. Sheldon R. Kressler, USA and Cpl. Gene M. Leiby, USA to Martha and Allen Deihl during the Second World War. Pvt Kressler wrote from the Bankhead Hotel in Birmingham, Alabama while watching a concert. He and five friends from a fort in Alabama (possibly Fort Mclellan) took a train an hour and a half to see Birmingham after two weeks of maneuvers in Talladega National Forest. He discusses being home sick and soon moving out, though unsure where his unit will be sent. At the end of his letter he says "No I haven't got my teeth yet."
Cpl. Leiby wrote to the Deihls from the Southwest Pacific, mostly about correspondence with others that they know, and that Pvt. Kressler has not yet written back to him. He also discusses the hot weather, even for winter south of the equator and the natives.
