Biographical / historical:

Edward H. Wisser (1895-1970) graduated from the Mining Engineering department at the University of California in 1917. In 1926, he went to work in Pachuca, Mexico for Compañía Real de Monte y Pachuca and was appointed the company's Chief Geologist of Mexican operations. Wisser played a significant role in the discovery of silver ore deposits at Pachuca and Real de Monte in Central Mexico. In the mid-1930s, Wisser began working as an independent consulting geologist. In this capacity, he was associated with the discovery of major ore bodies in southern Arizona, Mexico, and the Philippines. In 1946, Wisser became a lecturer in Mining at the University of California and then Professor of Mining in 1947. After retiring in 1962, he joined the Department of Mining and Geological Engineering at the University of Arizona as a visiting scholar. Wisser wrote 22 papers durign his career and is particularly remembered for his writing on structural geology and economic geology.
