Background

Scope and content:

This collection contains two correspondence written to Ray Wheeler during the Second World War from a relative, Sgt. Bruce H. Nickerson, USA and from a friend, SF1/C Henry Hoover, USN. Also included is one newspaper clipping about Nickerson after his return from the South Pacific to Fort Bragg, before he redeployed to the European front.

Sgt. Nickerson's letter references his passion for finding eggs and one such time he instead found "4 jerries" or Germans who were willing to surrender. The letter also states that "I carry the keys of the cities with me, boot heels and gun butts; they open any door." This letter's date is unknown.

The other letter was written as V-Mail to from his friend Henry Hoover. The letter references air raids and mentions that he was in Okinawa.
