Scope and content:

This collection contains 12 correspondence written by Sergeant William "Bill" F. Hagerty, United States Army to his family during the Vietnam War. All his letters are addressed to his mom, dad, and Cindy, his sister.

The letters focus on a variety of subjects such as Hagerty's day to day routines, descriptions of combat missions, the activities of his family, purchasing a car, purchasing a camera, and marriage.

The letter dated September 20th was the last letter Hagerty wrote while in Vietnam. In this letter he wrote about his tour being finally over and he was coming home soon.

Throughout the letters, Hagerty was promoted twice. He started as a Private First Class in the earliest letters. He then receives his first promotion to Specialist Fourth Class. Finally, he receives his second promotion to Sergeant.
