Tanaka Iwao (田中巌) was a cadet officer in the transportation logistics unit of the Japanese Imperial Guard. While hospitalized at Tokyo Military Hospital No. 2, he kept a journal and received numerous comfort letters ("imon"), including correspondence from the Great Japan Women's Society.
