Background
- Scope and content:
-
The collection consists primarily of mining charts, maps, reports, surveys, and township plats for mines in Arizona, California, Canada, Mexico, Montana, Nevada, and New Mexico but also contains surveys for real estate developments in southern California. Additionally, the collection contains photographs of various mines and mining areas (which are located in the folders for their respective counties), a number of personal photographs, and various ephemera.
Within each box, the folders are arranged alphabetically by county (or by neighborhood/area in the case of the California Land Subdivision folders). Individual mining companies, mining claims, subdivisions, and neighborhoods are listed on the folders but are not listed in finding aid unless there are multiple folders for a specific county. Several folders contain state maps or miscellaneous surveys and engineering drawings that are not particular to specific counties; these folders are labeled by state and are placed after the specific county folders.
Subject headings were not included in boxes that would have had the same heading for every folder but were included in boxes with multiple subjects (such as the California Land Subdivisions boxes).
