Scope and content:

The Compass Lodge No. 590 records (1923-1999) consist of applications for degrees and affiliation (1924-1999), bylaws (1924-1996), candidates for degrees booklets (1924-1998), investment reports (1961-1968), lodge seals (n.d.), master reports (1932-1996), meeting minutes (1923-1999), membership records (1924-1999), secretary reports (1930-1999), tiler's registers (1924-1999), treasurer reports (1931-1999), and trustee reports (1962-1980).

Biographical / historical:

On June 17th, 1924, a dispensation was granted to Masonic brethren in Pomona, Los Angeles County, California, by Grant Master of California Arthur S. Crites to establish a second Masonic lodge in the area. On October 16th, 1924, a charter was granted to Compass Masonic Lodge No. 590 by the Grand Lodge of California. In 1999, Compass Lodge No. 590 was considering surrendering its charter to the Grand Lodge of California due to low membership. However, the Lodge jointly owned the Pomona Masonic Temple building with Pomona Lodge No. 246, and if Compass Lodge were to surrender its charter, the Grand Lodge of California would effectively own half of the building. Therefore, on July 6th, 1999, Compass Lodge No. 590 consolidated with Pomona Lodge No. 246. On February 8th, 2017, Pomona Lodge No. 246’s charter was suspended, and on October 15th, 2017, its charter was revoked.
