    Biographical / Historical

    Private Francis John "Frank" Bike, United States Army (3/24/1915 - 3/8/1996) was born in Chicago, Illinois to Frank and Margaret B. Bike neé Dzinskiewitz. He enlisted in the Army on July 17, 1943 and was released on January 20, 1946. The donor, William S. Bike, inherited these letters from his mother, and Pvt. Bike was the donor's uncle, and the donor's father was William F. Bike. William also donated the Jean Smolen Second World War correspondence (2017-082-w-r) and inherited them from his mother.(information obtained from ancestry.com, and 1940 Federal Census, and the donor)

    Content Description

    This collection contains one postcard correspondence from Pvt. Frank J. Bike, USA to his mother, Margaret Bike, during the Second World War. The postcard was sent from Battle Creek Michigan while Pvt. Bike was in training and says they just had their shots and that they will be moving soon. On the reverse side of the card is a photograph of an army unit, presumably his.
