This collection contains documents relating to Edwin Clarence Norton, the first Dean of Pomona college. Norton served as Dean from 1893 until his retirement in 1926, but was active at the college since 1888. These papers contain autobiographical materials, speeches, correspondence, and other materials relating to Norton's life and especially his time at Pomona College and in the Claremont area.

This collection contains autobiographical and biographical notes, correspondence written as Dean of Pomona College, speeches and addresses given by Norton, photographs, correspondence by and about his Amhearst colleagues, and various clippings. Notable materials include a handwritten geneology for the Norton family that traces back to the time of William the Conqueror,and Norton's autobiography.

Acquisition information:
Gift of Katherine N. Benner, E.C. Norton's daughter. Donated to Pomona College in 1960, and acquired by Special Collections in 1993.
