Background
The
AIDS Emergency Fund was established in 1982 as a non-profit organization that provided critical financial assistance to eligible
persons with
AIDS and disabling
AIDS-related conditions. Based in San Francisco, the AEF provided direct grants to cover clients’ medical and living expenses
through a variety of fundraising efforts, from several annual benefit dinners and events to the Every Penny Counts fund, which
in cooperation with local businesses and schools collected change donations for over a decade. The AEF merged in 2016 with
PRC (formerly Positive Resource Center), an organization that assists San Francisco Bay Area residents living with HIV/
AIDS, addiction, or mental health issues.
