The photographer, apparently a friend of the Marks family (of Chicago?) opens the album with a photo of Mrs. Marks, in a horse and buggy, taken on Drexel Boulevard in Chicago. The photos that follow document the journey of the Marks party westward, through Colorado, where they sightsee in the Rockies, bathe in the sulphur springs in Glenwood Springs, and stay in the Antlers Hotel in Colorado Springs; and Utah, where they visit Brigham Youngs Beehive House and Eagle Gate in Salt Lake City. The album includes only one photo of San Francisco--"Frisco after the Quake"--featuring a street lined with trolley tracks, the buildings on either side completely destroyed, suggesting that perhaps the travelers visited shortly after the April 1906 earthquake. Travelling south, the sightseers visit Seal Rocks off Catalina Island, where the ladies also enjoy "marine gardens" in a glass bottom rowboat; go swimming at Long Beach; and tour Cawston's Ostrich Farm in Pasadena. Other photos include an interior shot of the dining room of the Marks family bungalow in Pasadena, and the photographer herself on horseback, out for a morning ride. A stagecoach ferries the party off to tour a mine at the Bawden-Marks Gold Mining Company camp, and the album includes several interior shots of the mine, showing miners working the ore in a narrow tunnel. Also included are a view of Yosemite Valley, and a final shot of the sightseers as they make a 10-mile trip on mules to Glacier Point, Yosemite.
