This collection contains Patricia Buffler's correspondence, teaching material, professional papers, and research files related to her work as an epidemiologist and Professor and Dean of the School of Public Health at UC Berkeley. Patricia A. Buffler (August 1, 1938 — September 26, 2013) was an American epidemiologist whose research focused on childhood leukemia and the health risks associated with occupational and environmental exposures. Buffler was Dean of the School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley from 1991-1998.
Buffler received degrees from UC Berkeley, including a master of public health degree and a doctorate in epidemiology. From 1974 to 1991, Buffler held various faculty positions at the University of Texas. Buffler began her career at UC Berkeley in 1991 as a professor of epidemiology. At the time of her death, Buffler was leading the California Childhood Leukemia Study, which she began in 1995.

Collection is open for research with the exception of original archival audiovisual media in carton 58 which is restricted from playback due to fragility. Inquire with Bancroft Public Services regarding the creation of reading room viewing copies of audiovisual items. Cartons 59-62 contain attorney client privileged communication and personnel information and are restricted until 2069.
