Background

Scope and content:

Collection consists of film reels, audiotape reels, and audiocassettes relating primarily to the Warm Springs Dam on Dry Creek and the New Melones Dam on the Stanislaus River. Many of the film reels contain footage that appears to have been created for an unfinished project entitled "Streams without Borders." In addition to footage of the rivers, these reels also contain some footage of William Heick and David Brower. The audiotapes and audiocassettes contain many recordings relating to the Warm Springs Dam controversy.

Biographical / historical:

Constance (Coni) Beeson was a photographer and filmmaker. She studied history at the University of California, Berkeley and started her career as a photojournalist with the Western Pacific Mileposts. She also worked as a freelance photographer. Her clients included Friends of the River, artist/weaver Barbara Shawcroft, musician Carlos Santana, auto racer Rex Ramsey, and dancer Anna Halprin, among others. Beeson was also a filmaker. Her films focus either around nudes and erotica or social justice and counterculture." Her films include: The Letter (1980), Lotus (1979), Grow Old Along With Me (1977), Women (1974), Holding (1971), Unfolding (1970), Ann, A Portrait, Firefly, Freedom on the Inside, Health on Wheels, The Now.
