    Abstract: The Thomas Mayer papers document the Friends of 1800’s successful campaign to convince the board of the Community Center Project (CCP) to preserve the Fallon Building – a Victorian building at 1800 Market Street – and incorporate it into the design of the future LGBT Community Center. The collection includes materials related both to the Friends and to Mayer, who was one of the organizers of the Friends and a former co-owner of the Roxie Cinema in the Mission District.

    Biography/Administrative History

    The Thomas Mayer papers document the Friends of 1800’s successful campaign to convince the board of the Community Center Project (CCP) to preserve the Fallon Building – a Victorian building at 1800 Market Street – and incorporate it into the design of the future LGBT Community Center. Mayer was one of the organizers of the Friends and a former co-owner of the Roxie Cinema in the Mission District.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    The collection includes materials related both to the Friends and to Mayer personally. Materials related to the Friends cover the year 1997 and include brochures; buttons; fact sheets; flyers; fundraising materials; mass mailings; memoranda; news clippings; newsletters; stickers; and a videotape. There are also CCP Board materials, a copy of the CCP feasability study, city planning documents, and various materials related to preservation issues and neighborhood associations. The collection also includes Mayer’s personal correspondence from the 1980s and 1990s and photographs dating back to the 1940s.
